On the Tradition of Venery Terms

The practice of assigning collective nouns dates to the fifteenth century, when hunting manuals catalogued terms of venery for game animals. The Book of Saint Albans (1486) gave us "a murder of crows," "a parliament of owls," and "a pride of lions." The tradition has since expanded well beyond its zoological origins. The Association welcomes nominations for any noun whatsoever, animate or otherwise.
